Volunteers

"I believe that this is a worthy project for the whole community to be involved in. An effort that links the schools and the residents, and may raise the levels of academic achievement, is valuable not only for the students and their families, but for the whole community."

Awards & Honors

Cheltenham School District will highlight Cheltenham Academics in an exhibit "Creating Partnerships with Parents", which was selected to be showcased at the 13th annual Pennsylvania Education Excellence Fair on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm. The fair is a popular attraction at the joint educational conference of Pennsylvania School Boards Association and the Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators.

Community-Based Tutoring

Cheltenham Academics is a community-based volunteer-delivered tutoring program to boost student academic achievement for selected students in Cheltenham Township public schools. It is a partnership among the Cheltenham School District, Arcadia University, and several community- based organizations including the Cheltenham Area Branch NAACP and Congregation Adath Jeshurun.

Tutors address the academic skills of selected 8th and 9th graders at Cedarbrook Middle School and Cheltenham High School.

Cheltenham Academics has a corps of nearly 40 tutors, some of whom are students in education or a related field at Arcadia University. The remainder are community volunteers: retired teachers and others whose academic expertise and experience enable them to support students' skill development.
